LABOR DAY WEEKEND EVENTS
Saturday-Monday: Fiesta Hermosa: The Hermosa Beach Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau presents its annual Labor Day weekend tradition with more than 300 vendors selling arts and crafts, a kiddie carnival, entertainment and a variety of ethnic foods and drinks. Festivities are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday through Monday at Hermosa and Pier avenues. Free bus shuttle service available from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. each day from the Northrop Grumman parking lot at Manhattan Beach Boulevard and Doolittle Street in Redondo Beach. Saturday: Labor Day Tribute: The battleship USS Iowa is hosting a Labor Day tribute to the American worker from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, 250 S. Harbor Boulevard, San Pedro. Presented by Go Country 105 FM, the daylong event will feature live entertainment, game booths, food, and the Go Country Street Team. Pierside activities are free. Ship admission is $18 adults, $10 youths, $15 seniors. Discount tickets available for $10 through Aug. 30. The Iowa is open for public tours daily. Monday: Concert on the Hill: The Palos Verdes Symphonic Band’s “A Tribute to American Composers” is at 5 p.m. Monday at South Coast Botanic Garden, 26300 Crenshaw Blvd., Palos Verdes Peninsula. Tickets are $8 for adults; free for children 12 and under.
Monday: Redondo Beach Labor Day Picnic: American Legion Post 184 will host the picnic featuring food furnished by members. The public is invited to enjoy hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, salads and pot luck dishes. 412 S. Camino Real, Redondo Beach. Noon to 3 p.m. Monday. Blue Star Mothers will have a table for donations which go toward calling cards for the troops at Christmas.
The Kitchen Witches: Comedy about two television cooking show hosts with a long-standing feud who are forced to host a new show together; 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Little Fish Theatre, 777 S. Centre St., San Pedro; tickets $27/$24/$20; 310-512-6030.

New Torrance Art Exhibits: The Torrance Art Museum at Joslyn Center invites the public to attend an opening reception for new exhibitions: True Believers, Joe Meiser, and UNCO. The reception will be held from 6-9 p.m. Saturday at 3320 Civic Center Drive, Torrance. After the reception, the exhibitions will be on view from Tuesday through Oct. 12 during museum hours, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturday. Call 310-618-3846.
Summer of Music: The Redondo Beach pier hosts its annual free concert series 6-8 p.m. Saturday, 100 Fisherman’s Wharf. West Swell (reggae).
ack to School: Del Amo Fashion Center is hosting its Kidgits Back to School event from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday in the JoAnn’s court section of the mall. Highlights include crafts, games, a magic show, raffles and prizes. The mall is at the corner of Carson Street and Hawthorne Boulevard, Torrance.
Light at the Lighthouse: San Pedro’s annual day-long family celebration and music festival is a day of music, food, fellowship and prayer featuring national and local music performers. 807 Paseo del Mar, San Pedro. 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. Sponsored by local churches, businesses and nonprofits.
Health fair: The Carson-Torrance NAACP will hold a free health fair featuring free screenings, health information, and giveaways. SouthBay Pavilion, 20700 Avalon Blvd., Carson. 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
Movies in the park: The Torrance Community Services Department, in association with local Torrance homeowners associations, presents the animated film “Cloudy With a Chance of Meat Balls” at dusk (around 8 p.m.) Saturday. Families are invited to bring picnics, blankets and lawn chairs to Paradise Park, 5006 Lee St., Torrance. Call 310-618-2930 for information.
Music in Lawndale: The Lawndale Library Music Festival wraps up with Masanga Marimba at 1 p.m. Saturday at 14615 Burin Ave., Lawndale. The event is sponsored by the Los Angeles County Library Foundation and Friends of the Lawndale Library.
Concerts in the Park: City of Manhattan Beach free concerts at 5 p.m. Sunday at Polliwog Park Amphitheater, 1601 Manhattan Beach Blvd. This week: Nathan Shrake (classic rock).

Bridging History: The San Pedro Historical Society presents a program titled “The Vincent Thomas Bridge” at 1:30 p.m. Sunday as part of the First Sunday Speaker Series at the Muller House Museum, 1542 S. Beacon St., San Pedro. Guest speaker will be Louis Dominguez. The museum opens at 1 p.m. and tours will be given from 3-4 p.m. Donations welcome.
